Am I taking care of my hair wrong?

My hair is natural brown, and very very long (lower back). it has these hairs that are kind of strays. they're all different lengths, and they make my hair look really bad. How do I get hair like other girls, where they're all GENERALLY the same length (besides intended tapering/layering)

I use Vo5 tea therapy conditioner, but I switch once in a while. I also have been using a shampoo + conditioner by equate

my friend told me that if I trim my hair, it will make it healthier. is that true? how much/often should I cut it?

Trim some of the split ends off of your hair.

Use a moisture-intense conditioner/shampoo. Shampoo + conditioners can dry out your hair if you're not careful.

Also, if you blow dry or heat style, use a heat protectant on it. If you want your hair smooth and sleek, try getting a flat iron and flattening it, making sure you use the heat protectant. You could also use a product like frizz ease while it's still damp. Smooth it through your hair and let it air dry or style it with a flat brush and blowdryer (it will make it straight) or flat iron it (it will make it super straight) but again, remember the protectant.

Trimming your hair prevents split ends from getting out of hand. You should trim a little off about once every 2-3 months, depending on how long your hair lasts without splitting. Some people can go longer, others not so much.

Also, make sure you're not combing your hair or pulling it back into pony tails/other tight styles while it's wet. Hard brushing, combing with anything other than a wide-tooth comb and putting tight elastics in your hair can cause your hair to break and have fly aways.

I hope that helps!

get it cut that will make your hair look much better. You can try using Pantene Pro-V Restoratives products they'll make your hair really healthy in less than a month. You should get your hair trimmed every 2-3 months but it depends if you add heat to your hair.

Trimming it will help but for those wiley little hairs you are talking about I always stick with a product by BedHead called "AfterParty" It is a creme that I put on after I blow dry and sometimes after I style. It does weigh your hair down a little bit but it really makes your hair look nice and sleek.
