Does dying your hair darker make it stronger and healthier?

i have blonde hair and it is a bit damaged so would dying it darker be bad for it or better?

When you color your hair it does some damage. To add color is better than to take color away.It does look thicker when it is darker. If your hair is naturally blonde, then adding color should be ok and turn out close to the color you chose. If you bleached or otherwise made it blonde by chemicals, the color may not turn out the way you want. When hair is damaged due to bleaching, all bets are off on the result. It may take too dark at the ends.Other than that, go for it

It will either do nothing or it do more damage.

Some dyes contain peroxide - that can't be good for your hair. Also, dark particles that penetrate the hair might add this thickner feel to it but it will not necessarily be good for its structure, causing even more damage and breakeage.

Your natural hair is what will fix your problems.

Adding chemicals to your hair damages it EVERY time

Dying your hair makes your hair worse over time. It never makes it better. The color of your hair has nothing to do with how healthy it is. Although you do less damage going darker than when you strip it from it's natural color to go lighter. I knew lady who died her hair so much when she was younger that by the time she was older her hair looked frizzed and fryed out and even most stylist had trouble dealing with her hair. if i were you I would buy shampoo for stronger hair. However if you do decide to dye your hair get Shampoo and Conditioner for permed or color treated it. That will help with the drying out and damage that some chemicals can do to your hair. Be sure to read the back of the shampoo and conditioners to make sure they work to retain your hairs natural beauty and not just to keep the color from fading.

chemicals in dye are not good for your hair no matter what color you dye it..I am sorry to say this, but damn that was a dumb blonde question

Generally speaking, dying hair darker is "better" for your hair than dying it lighter (when changing your natural color) because to go lighter the color is stripped from the strands, but the process of dying is damaging in itself. So you will actually be adding damage to your hair. If your hair is slightly damaged now, just start using a good deep conditioner and leave-in treatment. I use Pantene's new summer repair conditoner and it's great!

No, just get your hair cut/trimmed regularly, use good products (shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair) and say away from using heat everyday. You will great hair..

I personally don't think dying you're hair will make it more stronger and healthier.

Bad

any dying of any kind of hair never makes it healthier. But it can cover up the damages made to bleached hair.

Putting any chemicals on your hair will only temporarily hide your problem. In the end it will do more damage than it was worth.Try using a conditioner! I hope I helped a little.Just take care of your hair . Get trims and conditioning treatments. Ask a hair stylus.

It would be better to have a hair treatment than dying.

i don't know why people feel the need to throw around insults, if they think it's a stupid quesion, then they should just ignore it.

dying your hair darker won't necessarily make it healthier. it will, however, allow you to go longer between touchups. less touchups = less chemicals=healthier hair.

so if you dye your hair closer to your natural color, you can let it grow out without having to worry about touching up your roots every couple weeks. so, in that sense, it's healthier for your hair. but the chemicals (assuming no bleaching...which is ALWAYS worse for your hair) do the same amount of damage.

darker hair will also SHOW less damage. if you have two sets of hair, one blonde and one black, both dry and damaged to equal degrees...the darker hair is more likely to LOOK healthier...even though it isn't.

good luck!

No, it might make it look stronger.

Does dying your hair darker make it stronger and healthier?

No, it won't make it stronger. I use Pantene Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner and it works better than anything else I've ever tried.

If you're dying your hair with a non-ammonia containing dye it's safer for your hair and less damaging, or if you use a semi-permanent dye with no ammonia that'll darken your hair and last up to 20 washes.

My hair dresser says that dye adds to the hair while bleach takes away.

i really never heard anything about darker hair being healthier, so i would say no it does not make it healthier!!!!

I used to dye my hair. About 2 weeks ago I dyed my hair auburn, seven days later I went to a salon and had blond highlights put in my hair. All through my hair. I have the look now as if my hair is changing from blond to auburn yet with alot of blond streaks in it. Everyone I know likes it alot. This way you do not damage your hair by recoloring over the dye etc. All you do from here as the roots begin to show, you go back for touch ups in those areas. Here does not even cost thirty dollars to have that done. My hair before was dry and tired looking. Now with the cut I currently have as well...it looks and feels great.

It will do more damage in the long run. Dying your hair a dark color is still dying your hair. The dye attaches to your hair and can cause it to dry out. I have naturally light colored hair and I die it a darker color. It was very healthy before I started over a year ago. I recently stopped because my hair was starting to show signs of damage.

BTW the treatments they have are loaded with conditioners and will usually make your hair feel very healthy the first few weeks or even the first few treatments. But over time its not as effective.

No, go to the salon and have it trimmed and get a treatment for damaged hair....
